Course Objective:

In order to become independent life-long learners, students will maintain assignments using an agenda/calendar, bring necessary materials to class, and demonstrate on task behavior while focusing on work completion.  Students will utilize self-help strategies to make progress on assignments. In addition, some students may be completing independent online courses.

 

What is Academic Support?

A course that:

·         Supports students using skills used in high school and beyond

·         Supports students using study skills that support work in general ed classes

·         Provides time and support for students to organize materials & complete assignments from             their core classes

·         Teaches students strategies to access resources supporting general ed classes

 

What are the expectations of the students who take the class?

Students in this class will:

·         Complete course activities

·         Maintain assignment agenda/calendar

·         Bring all necessary materials to support class each day

·         Make satisfactory progress on assignments by being on task and focused

·         Students follow all school and classroom rules/policies

 

What is the grading policy?

Points for each section are awarded daily and are calculated each grading deadline as determined by school policy. Points missed when absent will be awarded for excused absences only. 

Daily point breakdown: 

            1 point for being on time

            2 points written daily homework goals

            7 points for participation in course lessons/activities and utilizing successful work habits

Total: 10 points available each day  

There will be assignments throughout the year that will be worth additional points and graded separately from the daily points given. 

 

Student Success Code (General procedures and policies)

1. Be present and on time; this means being in your assigned seat when the tardy bell rings.

2. Have materials ready as soon as you are seated (agenda out and working on daily homework goals).

3. No food or drink is permitted (water is okay).

4. No electronic devices permitted during class time.

5. Show respect to others at all times.
